Sequoia Elementary School hosted the Think Kindness Assembly on December 9 challenging the students and staff to do 5,000 acts of kindness by the time Winter Break begins on Friday.

Students learned about nurturing leadership skills and spreading kindness to everyone they know. Each day they are asked to do at least one kind deed and enter it into their Kindness Journal.

In addition, they were challenged to donate three gently used pairs of shoes. The shoes will be donated to the less fortunate in the Sacramento community, as well as charities around the world.

Sequoia has also named eight fifth and sixth graders — Dennis Sanchez, Ahrray Young, Hudson Kennedy, Remy Toney, Santi Ly, Alyxandria Cohen, Elizabeth Morgan and Avrey Booker — to be Ambassadors of Kindness. They will meet with Principal Cindy Hollander to make sure that the kindness message continues.

Donations of shoes will be taken through Friday.
