Two SCUSD schools — Camellia Basic Elementary and Leonardo da Vinci eK-8 — participated in the Center for Green School’s Green Apple Day of Service on Saturday.

The annual event gives parents, teachers, students, companies and local organizations the opportunity to work on service projects that make schools healthier and have safer learning environments.

With the support of two local architectural firms (HGA Architects and Engineers and LPA Inc), workers at LdV completed staining the school’s aquaponics stations, among other projects.

Camellia Basic students, parents, and teachers worked in the community garden getting the soil ready for fall planting. More than 25 parent and student volunteers participated. The goal is to help students learn the importance of eating healthy by growing their own fruits and vegetables.
