SCUSD parents and students explore UC Davis
SCUSD parents and students participated in a field trip to UC Davis last month. The event was one of several college trips that will be offered this year by SCUSD’s Family and Community Engagement Department in partnership with Sacramento Pathways to Success.
“The intention is to introduce families to the various possibilities available to students in pursuit of a higher education,” said Area Assistant Superintendent Tu Moua-Carroz. “Many of our families are not familiar with these opportunities and we want to provide them with an experience that will clarify the admissions process, address financial considerations and give them a first-hand look at college life.”
The day included a welcome from UC Davis Associate Vice Chancellor Walter Robinson; a tour of the campus; a presentation on transitioning into college; and a student panel. SCUSD Superintendent José L. Banda stopped by to acknowledge and thank the parents for their support of student academic success.
The college trips are an important component of the Family and Community Engagement Department Parent Leadership Pathway program, a 30-session series of research-based workshops designed to provide parents with the tools they need to participate as equal partners in their student’s education.
Future field trip destinations include: UC Berkeley; Sacramento State University and Sacramento City College.
