Sam Brannan’s music program sends 17 students to Honor Band
An impressive 17 students from Sam Brannan Middle School’s music program were accepted into the Sacramento City Unified School District Honor Band. The students competed for slots through an audition process and all who tried out were accepted.
The students will perform with High School Honor Band winners at 6 tonight (February 11) in the Rosemont High School auditorium. The students will be performing four musical selections conducted by music teachers: “Rampage,” conducted by Brannan music teacher Jeremy Hammond, “Themes from James Bond,” conducted by Martin Beal, “The Crossings,” conducted by Jen Nakayama and “Hymnsong Variants,” conducted by Kari Zimney of Albert Einstein.
Hammond says his Brannan students are some of the best young musicians he’s seen in recent years and anticipates they will continue with their study of music throughout high school and beyond.
