Popularity of Academic Parent Teacher Teams grows
Teachers at Camellia Basic Elementary School recently hosted the second Academic Parent Teacher Team (APTT) meeting of the school year, an event that left parents feeling empowered.
Academic Parent Teacher Teams are a model of parent engagement brought to Sacramento City Unified by the Parent Teacher Home Visit Project, a national nonprofit focused on building trust between schools and families.
After visiting families in their homes, teachers host presentations that focus on grade-level skills that parents reinforce using instructional activities. At APTT parents receive student-specific data, materials, set goals and receive training on reinforcement activities they can use at home. Parents leave these meetings feeling empowered to support learning at home.
