Phoebe Hearst’s Jog-a-Thon sets new fundraising record

Phoebe Hearst Elementary School’s annual fundraiser, Jog-a-Thon for the Arts, was a tremendous success this year.

Students worked hard to secure donations and pledges for weeks – all the proceeds pay entirely for the art program at Phoebe, taught by artist Jane Hastings (known as “Ms. Jane”). The donation total was a school record — more than $50,000 was raised.

“Obviously, doing what we can to enrich the school day with the arts is the goal of any school,” said Principal Nate McGill, who attributed the successful event to the three families who organized it (the Harrisons, Milevskys and Hannas). ”We’re fortunate to have an extremely supportive parent base, enthusiastic kids, and a special instructor in Ms. Jane. In all, it’s a wonderful event and what we raised is a testament to the quality of the program and the type of community we have here.”
