SCUSD’s Family and Community Engagement Office honored 180 parents from 17 schools at its annual Parent Recognition Celebration held May 30 at the Serna Center.

The C.K.McClatchy High School Air Force Junior ROTC began the ceremony with the Presentation of Colors and Pledge of Allegiance.Parent honorees were then led into the ceremony by their school principals.

Parents honored were participants this past school year in SCUSD’s Parents as Partners in Schools Program and SCUSD partner programs, including the PTA School Smarts Parent Academy and La Familia Active Parenting Program. Each parent received a Certificate of Recognition from Superintendent Jonathan Raymond and were congratulated by honored guests, including SCUSD School Board Member Christina Pritchett, Chief of Staff Koua Franz, Area Superintendent Mary Hardin Young and FACE Interim Co-Chief Stacey Bell.

The Parents as Partners workshops focused on the tools and skills that parents require to be active partners with their school sites and the district. Parent Deyanira Galvez and Kathryn Zweigenbaum were featured speakers who shared the impact that these programs had on their families.

“The lessons that I have learned in these classes have helped me to communicate with my child’s teacher,” Ms. Galvez said. “These classes are the seeds that make parent engagement grow.”
