Online Registration Cuts the Time and the Lines
August usually means lines of parents and guardians circling outside the district’s Enrollment Center, but not this year. For the first time, Sacramento City Unified offered online registration, and the long lines became a memory. Ken McPeters, Director of the Enrollment Center, said, “The whole process ran much smoother.”
McPeters added that with one week left for new students to get enrolled, the district’s enrollment numbers are running about 400 students above average for this time of the year. He also credited the calmer pace to adding two satellite centers – at Rosemont and Luther Burbank High Schools – and starting the enrollment period in May, a month earlier than the traditional start time of June. “We really wanted to reduce those long lines for parents,” McPeters said. As of August 22, more than 1,000 online applications were completed, and another 117 applications were in the process of being completed.
Parents using the online system were able to complete paperwork at a convenient time for them and reduce the time they needed to be at the Enrollment Center verifying documents such as birth certificates and home addresses.
