Nicholas School gets garden makeover on ‘Day of Caring’

More than 20 volunteers worked in the Nicholas Elementary School garden on September 13 as part of United Way’s “Day of Service” campaign.

Volunteers included staff from Nationwide Insurance, United Way, SCUSD and Sacramento Chinese Community Service Center, as well as a school parent.

Nicholas principal Rachel Lane worked with Shannon Hardwick of Theodore Judah Elementary School to design a science-friendly garden — an outdoor classroom for students.

When completed, each grade level will have its own garden box to tend and study.
