Sacramento New Technology High School English teacher Christine Baker is one of 12 Sacramento-area English and drama teachers chosen to participate in the UC Davis Mondavi Center’s 2013 Globe Education Academy.

The Academy helps teachers find new ways to incorporate the study of Shakespeare into their curriculum. It has three parts:
– This spring, Baker and some of her students will attend a series of workshops led by UC Davis faculty and Globe Education practitioners.
– In June, she will travel to London for a two-week residency at the Globe Theater to continue her study of Shakespeare.
– In November, Baker and her students will perform scenes from a Shakespearean play at the UC Davis Mondavi Center as part of a program celebration.

On Monday, Baker and four New Tech ninth graders participated in the first of the three spring workshops, working with Shakespeare’s language in the play “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
