McClatchy JROTC named Distinguished Unit With Merit by Air Force

e-Connections Post

The Junior ROTC unit at C.K. McClatchy High School has been awarded the Distinguished Unit With Merit Award and Outstanding Organization Award from the U.S. Air Force.

“These awards recognize the personal growth and accomplishments of the cadets, contributions of the instructors as mentors and the support of the school and local community,” Air Force Col. Cameron Gilbert wrote in a letter to the school.

Of the 836 Air Force Junior ROTC units worldwide, only the top 3 percent — just 28 units — were awarded the high honor of Distinguished Unit With Merit for the 2013-14 school year.

Last year, the CKM cadets were awarded Distinguished Unit and were in the top 5 percent. That award allowed cadets from CKM to enter the Air Force Academy without Congressional approval, which is one of the greatest challenges. It is expected that this year’s unit will be afforded the same privilege.

Congratulations Lions!
