The A. Warren McClaskey Adult Center participated in the Second Annual International Green Apple Day of Service sponsored by the U.S. Green Building Council on Saturday, September 28.

Twenty-eight volunteers came to McClaskey to plant trees donated by the Sacramento Tree Foundation, build a compost bin for the garden and upgrade the garden that was constructed last year.

Kelly Conroy, Greenprint Regional Coordinator for the Sacramento Tree Foundation, instructed the volunteers how to plant trees properly. It was quite a lesson. Jed Larsen and students from his leadership class at Kit Carson were among the volunteers. McClaskey staff is excited to develop a relationship with Kit Carson.

Farah Wissinger, the Districts Environmental Sustainability Manager, helped with the construction of the compost bin. McClaskey staff is now bringing materials from their homes to fill the bin.
