Mayor Steinberg Visits Students at Parkway Elementary School
Students and staff at Parkway Elementary School were presented with a pleasant surprise last Thursday, April 5th when Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg decided to stop by and join them in a reading circle. The Mayor’s visit helped reinforce the city’s commitment to our students and schools.
The Mayor joined 3rd grader Deiondre Oliver during his reading session. The two had a great conversation for about 20 minutes during the session and learned a lot about each other. In addition to reading, the Mayor and Deiondre discussed various topics related to school and life. Deiondre also had the chance to ask all kinds of questions of the Mayor, which kept him on his toes and alert!
Parkway Elementary is a participant in the Reading Partner program, which is run by Reading Partners Sacramento, a nonprofit organization that empowers community volunteers to help students gain the reading skills they need to reach their full potential. The district is proud to work with Reading Partners as part of our ongoing commitment to promote literacy and grade level readiness.
