‘The Mask You Live In’ Film Screening Event

e-Connections Post

The Sacramento Young Feminists Alliance is partnering with Congregation B’Nai Israel and George Washington Carver School of Arts and Science’s Civic Action Coalition to host a screening of “The Mask You Live In” on December 19.

“The Mask You Live In” follows boys and young men as they struggle to stay true to themselves while negotiating America’s narrow definition of masculinity.

The film is directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, who also directed “Miss Representation,” the ground-breaking 2012 documentary about female gender roles. That film launched a movement (The Representation Project) and producers are hoping for the same result with “The Mask You Live In” (say it fast and it sounds like “masculine”).

In addition to following the lives of young men, the documentary features interviews with experts in neuroscience, psychology, sociology, sports, education and media.
