Mark your calendar: National No One Eats Alone Day is February 13

Middle schoolers: Mark your calendars for National No One Eats Alone Day on February 13, an opportunity for students to make a difference on their campuses.

No One Eats Alone Day is sponsored by Beyond Differences, a non-profit founded by the parents of Lili Smith, who was born with a cranial facial syndrome and was socially isolated during her middle school years.

After Lili died at the age of 15 from medical complications associated with her syndrome, a group of her former classmates from the local community banded together to bring change to their schools.

That small group has grown into thousands who support National No One Eats Alone Day. During lunch on February 13, students can make a difference by ensuring that everyone is included at lunch.

Schools can learn the seven easy steps to organizing a No One Eats Alone event at www.beyonddifferences.org.

This program aligns with the SCUSD’s extensive work to make our schools safer and healthier places for children to learn. SCUSD was one of the first districts in the region to pass a sweeping anti-bullying policy and remains the only local district to employ a full-time Bullying Prevention Specialist. SCUSD is also one of only eight districts nationwide to participate in a Social Emotional Learning cohort funded by the NoVo Foundation.
