Isador Cohen’s Student Reporters Investigate Bullying
Students attending Isador Cohen Elementary School formed a Journalism Club and are digging into a difficult issue: School bullying. The students conducted research on school bullying, reviewed SCUSD’s Anti-Bullying policy, and conducted an interview with Sheila Self, Bullying Prevention Specialist for SCUSD. All of their efforts are focused on preparing an article for the December school newsletter.
Ms. Self was invited by Dawn Weymouth, club sponsor, so students could practice their interviewing skills and collect additional information about bullying, cyber bullying and relational aggression. The students were well prepared with interview questions about how to prevent bullying, what to do if you are bullied, the definition of cyber bullying, the difference between tattling and reporting, how to recognize, refuse and report bullying and what students can do to protect themselves from bullying behavior.
