Hiram Johnson student wins $180,000 scholarship
Jacob Pendleton is headed to Stanford next fall
After a highly competitive selection process that included written, oral and physical testing, Hiram Johnson High School senior Jacob Pendleton was selected to receive one of three full-ride Navy/Marine college scholarships.
Pendleton is an outstanding student in Hiram Johnson’s Law Academy, who maintains a 4.0 grade point average. Pendleton was also a starting player on the football team, cross country team, wrestling team and captain of the swim team.
During Pendleton’s four years in JROTC, he has been a very active cadet. He has held leadership positions since the second semester of his freshman year. He was selected as the single 2012 AMVETS sponsored participant at the Freedoms Foundation Spirit of America Youth Conference in Philadelphia. In 2013, he was the American Legion sponsored California Boys State Delegate. He has been awarded the American Legion Scholastic Achievement Award, the Veterans’ of Foreign Wars Award, and the Air Force Association Award. He has been selected “Top Cadet” for Academics and “Top Cadet” for Leadership the last two years in a row, as well as the “Top Cadet” Over All.
Pendleton has decided to attend Stanford University next fall and pursue a degree in International Policy Studies. He will also be in the Marine ROTC program to be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the US Marine Corps.
