Health Professions students tour UC Davis Institute of Regenerative Medicine
Ten students from Health Professions High School were recently invited to tour the prestigious UC Davis Institute of Regenerative Medicine to learn about the science of stem cells.
Students heard from different scientists about their careers and roles in the development of new medical treatments through stem cells. The tour included information on how umbilical cord blood helps saves lives around the world to the repairing of broken bones and revascularizing limbs in horses and people.
It was a rare glimpse inside the new world of possible cures for such diseases as Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s disease. Health Professions High School has a great partnership with UC Davis Health Systems, and the stem cell tour helped students to imagine themselves as future scientists in the search for new treatments and cures.
