Washington Elementary School’s Midtown community will celebrate the campus’ reopening at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, August 24.

The 5:30-7:30 p.m. celebration will be an opportunity for neighbors and others to meet the school’s staff and local officials.

Washington was one of seven chronically under-enrolled elementary schools closed during the Great Recession as a cost-cutting measure. It reopens on September 1 as a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) school centered on project-based learning.

Programs driving the STEAM effort are The Leader in Me and The New Tech Network.
