Five SCUSD students accepted into California State Summer School for the Arts

Congratulations to five SCUSD high school students who have been accepted into California State Summer School for the Arts.

Four of the Sac City winners this year attend C.K. McClatchy High School: Isa Flores-Jones, theater; Savannah Hastings, visual arts; Maya Navarrete, creative writing; and Helen Veazey, visual arts.

The fifth winner is Alyssa Gnos of George Washington Carver School of Arts and Sciences, who will study visual arts. These students will be honored at a reception and award ceremony on June 16. 

California State Summer School for the Arts awards substantial financial aid to qualified applicants, who can compete for scholarships during the program. The four-week experience at California Institute for the Arts in Valencia has been described as a life-changing time for those who attend.

Artist David Garabaldi is a former California Arts Scholar has credited the program with reinforcing his passion for art.
