Five Ben Carson Reading Rooms open in SCUSD
Five SCUSD elementary schools — David Lubin, Ethel I. Baker, Hollywood Park, H.W. Harkness and John Cabrillo — are the recipients of Ben Carson Reading Rooms, cozy campus nooks where kids can curl up with a book.
The reading rooms were made possible through the generosity of the Richard Lumsden Foundation and the Carson Scholars Fund.
The Carson Scholars Fund is a non-profit charity founded in 1994 by world renowned pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Benjamin Carson and his wife, Candy. The organization is dedicated to combating illiteracy and promoting leisure reading as a key to unlocking a child’s full potential.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at Ethel I. Baker on Wednesday, February 5 and was attended by Dr. Carson.
