Erlewine celebrates Earth Day with nature walks, smoothies
O.W. Erlewine School held its fifth annual Earth Day Celebration on Friday, April 19.
The celebration included various activity stations set up throughout the campus.Students went on walks through the school’s nature area, established in 1965, and learned about the different types of animals that live in the American River.
Students rode bikes that generated the power to create their own smoothies, painted bird houses and built bird feeders using pinecones.
A local 4H Club presented a variety of animals for our students to observe and learn about. Students also participated in the Nike Reuse-a-Shoe program, which recycles the rubber and other materials from old athletic shoes into playgrounds and artificial turf.
Erlewine’s Earth Day is a joint effort between the school and its START program, with START providing extra staff. Erlewine students enjoy learning through the variety of Earth Day activities each year.
