‘Empty Bowl’ Dinner at Sam Brannan Raises Money for Food Bank
Sam Brannan Middle School students raised more than $400 at the campus’ Second Annual Empty Bowl Soup Dinner, held Thursday, April 19. Students in the leadership classes at Sam Brannan completed a unit on hunger and homeless, which included hosting a school-wide canned food drive, a drive for supplies for mothers and their babies, and the making of clay bowls to sell at their soup dinner. Keeping in the spirit and tone of the event, students sold soup, water and bread at the dinner, symbolizing the scarcity of food for more than 90,000 children in the Sacramento region.
All proceeds will be donated to the Sacramento Food Bank.
