Students at Elder Creek Elementary School participated in a colorful parade on Tuesday, February 12 to celebrate Lunar New Year.

Second graders in the school’s Chinese Immersion Program performed a ribbon dance for students before the parade.

The 4,000-year-old holiday is celebrated throughout Sacramento by residents who trace their ancestry to Asian cultures, including Chinese, Vietnamese and Iu Mien and others.

This year, the event ushered in the Year of the Snake.
