Early Kinder program expands to Tahoe, Sloat in the fall

SCUSD is expanding its successful Early Kinder program to Tahoe and John Sloat elementary schools this fall.

Early Kinder is for students who will turn 5 years of age between September 2 and December 2. The program is designed to give these children an extra year of learning before they start traditional kindergarten.

“We consider Early Kinder a gift of time,” says John Conway, coordinator of the Early Kinder programs. “Kindergarten can be challenging for students who are not truly prepared for the rigors and routines.”

Early Kinder programs are open to all eligible students who live in the district. For more information and to download the Early Kinder Enrollment packet, visit www.scusd.edu/earlykinder.

The application deadline for the Tahoe and Sloat programs is August 12. Packets may be turned into the school offices until June 24. Please call the school to schedule an application pick-up or the drop-off of a completed package.

After June 24, packets should be turned into the Enrollment Center, 5601 47th Ave. Families will be notified of enrollment status the week of August 15. Space is limited to 24 students at each campus.

If applications exceed that number, an equitable lottery will be held at the school prior to letter notification to the families.
