Community pulls together for Golden Empire’s garden
Golden Empire Elementary School was the proud recipient of a garden make-over day last Saturday.
Members of the Rosemont Community Association, First Covenant Church, Golden Empire’s Garden Club and staff contributed time and effort into the garden overhaul, which was organized by Monique Starks, a community volunteer.
A team of about 25 volunteers made a difference by weeding the garden beds and tilling the soil just in time for fall and winter planting. Areas around classrooms also were weeded and spruced up for students to plant spring-time bulbs.
Volunteers also planted new trees and bushes to improve Golden Empire’s landscaping. Four new picnic tables were constructed to allow for students to be instructed in their new Outdoor Classroom right next to the school garden.
While the volunteers were left tired at the end of the day, they left knowing that the students, staff and community will greatly appreciate and benefit from their altruistic efforts!
