Celebrate McClatchy’s 75th anniversary on Friday
Rally, parade and football game to honor school's Sacramento legacy
The community is invited to share in C.K. McClatchy High School’s 75th anniversary/homecoming celebration this Friday, October 12.
For the first time in several years, the school will hold a homecoming rally during sixth period in the gym followed by a parade to Sacramento City College’s Hughes Stadium.
Friday evening, the Lions take on the Hiram Johnson High School Warriors.
McClatchy, named in honor of Sacramento Bee editor Charles Kenny McClatchy, opened its doors for students in September 1937. At that time, it was a “senior high school” for sophomores, juniors and seniors.
Many alumni are expected to attend Friday’s game. Delores Greenslate, class of 1942, says her years attending McClatchy were some of the best of her life. She met her husband, Norman, at McClatchy, and the two have been married 66 years.
Greenslate, 88, and friends from her class still gather monthly for lunch, she adds. “It was a great place to go to school. We loved it.”
Kick off for Friday’s JV game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.; varsity is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m.
