California Middle School enters Macy’s Lip Dub Contest

Students and staff at California Middle School demonstrated their campus pride by creating an ambitious time-traveling “lip dub” video set to the Beach Boys’ “Be True to Your School.”

The video is the school’s official entry in the Macy’s All School Lip Dub Challenge. The winning school will take home a $25,000 prize.

“We were so grateful for the opportunity to show our Cal Bear pride, but we were even more grateful for the opportunity to connect with our surrounding community,” wrote teacher Rebecca Long, who coordinated the project, in the Macy’s submission.

“Friends and neighbors of Cal Middle entrusted us with the use of their vintage cars, costumes, and even a scissor-lift for the aerial shot at the end! We had so much fun preparing for the lip dub that we actually ran out of time to film, getting only two takes before school ended for the day! It was truly an exhilarating, educational experience that we will never forget.”

If Cal wins, Long says the school will use the prize money to purchase supplies for our art, music and media production classes. In addition, funds would be used to “extend learning opportunities beyond the hours of the regular school day with science, engineering, and math clubs; theatre arts and dance; poetry and creative writing; and animation and design technology.”

Go Bears!
