e-Connections Post

The Luther Burbank High School Navy JROTC cadets had the honor of providing a Color Guard for the current Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Jonathan W. Greenert, in San Francisco on September 25.

Additionally, the cadets mingled with General Tony Zinni (USMC Retired), and former Secretary of State George Shultz.

The speaker series was presented by the Marines’ Memorial Association in partnership with the Commonwealth Club of California. Admiral Greenert  spoke to an audience of approximately 400 guests at the Marines Memorial Club.

Admiral Greenert’s lecture focused on current Navy operations and the impact of federal sequestration on past, current and future on operations. He also discussed several research and development programs, displaying pictures and target dates for these advanced weapon systems.

In a question-and-answer session with the audience, moderated by General Zinni, Admiral Greenert was asked what the Navy would look like in 25 years (when our cadets might be finishing their navy careers). He commented that cyber security and unmanned vehicles would dominate the landscape.
