Bike safety fair emphasizes the importance of helmets

Judah students examine Jell-O brains and melons to learn about bike helmets

Theodore Judah Elementary School’s student leadership team, aka “The “Green Team,” held one of its annual student-led educational fairs on December 10.

As the school has been actively promoting taking alternative transportation to school, many students ride their bikes. The theme for the fair was bike safety.

Student leaders facilitated booths to teach students about basic bike maintenance, safety protocols and — most importantly — the need to wear a helmet.

The demonstration of what happens to a melon or a Jell-O “brain” when it is and when it is not protected by a helmet made quite an impression. The Theodore Judah community encourages all students to “protect their melons.”
