2018 Poetry Out Loud Competition

e-Connections Post Luther Burbank John F. Kennedy

The Sacramento County Poetry Out Loud competition encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization, performance and competition.

The program provides students with the opportunity to perform poetry in English classes. Modeled after the National Spelling Bee, the Poetry Out Loud program began in local high school classrooms, with winners advancing to school-wide, then regional competition.

Congratulations to Sage Innerarity from Pleasant Grove High School (Elk Grove Unified) for winning the 2018 Sacramento County Poetry Out Loud competition. She took first place from a field of 13 during the Sacramento County finals, held Thursday, February 15 at Rosemont High School in Sacramento.

Schools across the country participated in regional competitions. The Sacramento City Unified School District is very proud of seeing students thrive and participate in this types of competitions.

We want to thank the Sacramento Educational Cable Consortium for putting together the individual performances of each of our students. Please make sure to watch their performance:

  • Ma’ake Uluiviti from Luther Burbank High School Performances:
    Round 1 & Round 2
  • Jessica Nunez from John F. Kennedy High School Performances:

The entire program of student performances is also available here.

Congrats again to all the students who participated in the competition!!!
