Celebrating Food Literacy Center’s Expansion in Sacramento City Unified Schools
@ Leataata Floyd
To kick-off Sugar Awareness Week, Sacramento City Unified School District’s Food Literacy Program will be announcing that Raley’s has awarded $72,000 to the program. The Food Literacy Center inspires and teaches low-income elementary children to eat their vegetables by teaching them to cook and the importance of nutrition to improve our health, environment and economy. The programs mission is to inspire kids to make healthier food choices. Sacramento has a 40% childhood obesity rate, and only 4% of kids eat their daily amount of vegetables, so food literacy programming is critical to helping them learn to eat–and love–vegetables. They are learning to protect one of their most precious assets–their health.
