12/22/06 - Golden Empire students receive visit from fire truck riding Santa  Jolly Old St. Nick will make an early appearance at Golden Empire Elementary School at 10:30 a.m. today. Instead of driving his reindeer-propelled sleigh, Santa Claus will pull up in a vintage fire engine thanks to the efforts of the Sacramento Metro Fire Department
 

12/06/06 - New board officers take helm in city school system; new and re-elected members take oath at meeting. Sacramento City Unified School District Board of Education members elected their new officers at the annual organization meeting Thursday evening and swore in new board member Ellyne Bell and re-elected members Roy Grimes and Jerry Houseman.

10/31/06 - Joint press Release with Sacramento City Police Department and Sacramento City School District - New Attendance Center Opened The Sacramento Police Department and the Sacramento City Unified School District, in partnership with the Sacramento County Probation Department, the Department of Human Assistance, and several faith-based and community-based organizations, will hold a press conference on Wednesday, November 1, 2006, at 10:00 a.m., in the Luther Burbank High School Library (3500 Florin Road) to announce the opening of a new attendance center on that campus.

10/24/06 Burbank seniors to cast votes in statewide student mock election  Luther Burbank High School seniors will express their views on the 2006 election on Tuesday, Oct. 24 when about 400 students vote in a mock election conducted by Get Up—Stand Up—Vote, a partnership between the Sacramento City Unified School District, the Sacramento County Registrar of Voters, The California Secretary of State, the League of Women Voters and the LegiSchool Project at California State University, Sacramento.
 

10/18/06 Crocker/Riverside celebrates being county’s highest scoring school. Crocker/Riverside Elementary School and Principal Alvin Lee will recognize students and staff for achieving a county-best Academic Performance Index (API) score of 944 at a Celebration of Achievement on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 9:30 a.m.
 

10/18/06 Sac City pays for all sophomores to take pre-college exam to create ‘college going culture All 3,594 Sacramento City Unified School District 10th graders will join other sophomores across the nation in taking a pre-college entrance exam known as the PSAT on Wednesday, Oct. 18. These students will become eligible for early college entrance programs and resources for the duration of their high school career.

9/28/06 Health professions High School dedicated and formally named for longtime city schools educator Art Benjamin. The late city schools principal Arthur A. Benjamin will be honored on Monday, Oct. 2 at 12 noon when the small Health Professions High School adopts his name as Sacramento City Unified School District officials and campus students and staff dedicate their newly completed permanent facility.  The school is located at 451 McClatchy Way.

Nearly 800 Sac City students will have the opportunity to receive on-the-spot admissions, scholarships and college admissions advice at the Seventh Annual Historically Black College Recruitment Fair, sponsored by the Sacramento City Unified School District and The United College Action Network.The fair begins at 8:45 a.m. at Hiram Johnson High School, 6879 14th Ave.
 

9/8/06 Sacramento Fresh Air Market begins job interviews-  Students over 16 years of age and adults interested in employment opportunities for the soon-to-open weekend Sacramento Fresh Air Market on Florin Rd. will be able to apply on Saturday, Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Charles A. 8/14/06 Sac City seniors who recently passed exit exam graduate in special ceremony Class of 2006 students notified they passed the California High School Exit Exam (CASHEE) over the summer and seniors completing course requirements for graduation since June will graduate at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 14 in a special summer ceremony at the Charles A. Jones Skills Center. Reporters are invited to the ceremony and rehearsal at 10:40 a.m. The Skills Center is located at 5451 Lemon Hill Ave.

7/27/06 STATE SCHOOLS CHIEF JACK O’CONNELL AWARDS TOBACCO-USE PREVENTION GRANTS - State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell today announced he is awarding $9.98 million in Tobacco-Use Prevention Education (TUPE) funds to 42 local education agencies serving grades nine through twelve throughout California. 6/19/06 School staff undertakes door-to-door effort to keep campuses safe over summer vacation. The principal and staff of John Bidwell Elementary School will join district security officers and John F. Kennedy High School police cadets in an effort to keep their campuses free from costly vandalism with a door-to-door canvass of the surrounding neighborhood.
 


6/8/06 Sacramento Zoo and Sacramento city Unified School District join forces. Working Together to Keep Children in School  More than 200 fifth graders will soon be spending the night at the Sacramento Zoo. It’s called City School Overnight Safari – a program that rewards children with the opportunity to camp overnight at the Sacramento Zoo complete with dinner, animal encounters, nocturnal tour, campfire program, storytelling, sleeping in tents, breakfast and much more.
