riding Santa
Jolly Old St. Nick will make an early appearance at Golden Empire
Elementary School at 10:30 a.m. today. Instead of driving his
reindeer-propelled sleigh, Santa Claus will pull up in a vintage
fire engine thanks to the efforts of the Sacramento Metro Fire
Department

Sacramento City Unified School District Board of Education members
elected their new officers at the annual organization meeting
Thursday evening and swore in new board member Ellyne Bell and
re-elected members Roy Grimes and Jerry Houseman.

conduct a board workshop to review practices and procedures in place

The Sacramento Police Department and the

1, 2006, at 10:00 a.m., in the Luther Burbank High School Library

10/24/06 Burbank seniors to cast votes in statewide student mock
election
Luther Burbank High School seniors will express their
views on the 2006 election on Tuesday, Oct. 24 when about 400
students vote in a mock election conducted by Get Up—Stand Up—Vote,
a partnership between the Sacramento City Unified School District,
the Sacramento County Registrar of Voters, The California Secretary
of State, the League of Women Voters and the LegiSchool Project at
California State University, Sacramento.

Crocker/Riverside celebrates
being county’s highest scoring school. Crocker/Riverside
Elementary School and Principal Alvin Lee will recognize students
and staff for achieving a county-best Academic Performance Index
(API) score of 944 at a Celebration of Achievement on Wednesday,
Oct. 18 at 9:30 a.m.

for all sophomores to take pre-college exam to create ‘college going
culture
All 3,594 Sacramento City Unified School District 10th
graders will join other sophomores across the nation in taking a
pre-college entrance exam known as the PSAT on Wednesday, Oct. 18.
These students will become eligible for early college entrance
programs and resources for the duration of their high school career.

for longtime city schools educator Art Benjamin. The late city
schools principal Arthur A. Benjamin will be honored on Monday, Oct.
2 at 12 noon when the small Health Professions High School adopts
his name as Sacramento City Unified School District officials and
campus students and staff dedicate their newly completed permanent

opportunity to receive on-the-spot admissions, scholarships and
college admissions advice at the Seventh Annual Historically Black

special ceremony Class of 2006 students notified they passed the
California High School Exit Exam (CASHEE) over the summer and
seniors completing course requirements for graduation since June
will graduate at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 14 in a special summer
ceremony at the Charles A. Jones Skills Center. Reporters are
invited to the ceremony and rehearsal at 10:40 a.m. The Skills

John Bidwell Elementary School will join district security officers
