Purpose of the Blue Ribbon Commission:
The Sacramento City
Unified School District’s strategic plan, “Success for Every Student
by Name,” is a roadmap for our district. The very first policy
Priority outlined in this plan is: Equity, Access, and Achievement
for Every Student. While our district has made steady improvement
in improving results for students, not every student is achieving at
expected levels. Sacramento City’s staff is committed to supporting
each student in demonstrating proficiency of California’s rigorous
content standards. Our goal is that all our students are proficient
in the established State content standards.
In order to meet
the needs of every student and ensure that all students attain
proficiency with our state standards it is important that we recognize
the students who have historically failed to meet the proficiency
levels of performance. To help us study, understand and make
recommendations for improvement, we have established a Blue Ribbon
Commission. This Commission, comprised of education, business and
community leaders, will research, study, and establish goals to
specifically address the achievement gap of our African American,
Latino, Hmong, and Mien students. These broad goals will guide our
district’s work.
