Since
1997, schools in Sacramento City Unified School District
have experienced significant improvements in student achievement
and parent-teacher relationships by adopting home visiting
programs. Sacramento Area Congregations Together (ACT),
a community organization that met with parents and discussed
what changes they would like to see happen, helped initiate
these programs. The partnership between Sacramento City
Unified School District and Sacramento ACT has proven to
be an effective collaboration by helping thousands of teachers,
parents, and students to build stronger relationships. Because
of the programs increasing success, the United States
Department of Education awarded the District with a Fund
for the Improvement of Education earmark grant to develop
and operate the California Home Visiting Center.
