At the March 1st Board of Education meeting, trustees made the
decision to keep A.M. Winn Elementary School open next year. They
also approved the creation of a Design Team for A.M. Winn.
At the Board of Education meeting on February 16, trustees made
the difficult decision to close Freeport Elementary School next
year, beginning a transition process for families and staff. The
Board also voted to keep C.P. Huntington Elementary open and
tabled a decision on A.M. Winn Elementary School’s closure until
March 1.
The Board of Education on Thursday approved $28 million in cuts
to next year’s budget, action necessary to comply a March 15
deadline for providing a balanced budget to the Sacramento County
Office of Education. SCUSD is continuing to work on solutions to
this fiscal crisis that could lead to restoration of programs and
positions. The district’s final 2012-13 budget is due to the
state on June 30.
