Incoming 1st Grade Intervention Program

Our incoming first graders will engage in theme-based literacy activities that focus on developing students’ foundational skills, grade level reading and writing about reading. All first grade students will also participate in SummerQuest activities run by Youth Development. Targeted students will be automatically enrolled in this course and only a parent can authorize opting them out.

Incoming 3rd Grade Intervention Program

Our incoming third graders will engage in theme-based literacy activities that focus on developing students’ foundational skills, grade level reading and writing about reading. In addition to reading, students will participate in math instruction that will focus on the following: extending understanding of base-ten notation, building fluency with addition and subtraction, using standard units of measure and describing and analyzing shapes. Targeted students will be automatically enrolled in this course and only a parent can authorize opting them out.

Incoming 7th Grade Intervention Program

This intervention program is designed to integrate with Summer of Service to provide students with units of study that strengthen their skills in English Language Arts, specifically argumentative writing and to engage in developing skills for academic and career success, such as setting SMART goals, time management, leadership skills, college/career exploration, growth mindset and personal reflection. Students will also engage activities to strengthen their math skills as they focus in on ratio and proportions, the division of rational numbers, expressions and equations and statistical thinking. Targeted students will be automatically enrolled in this course and only a parent can authorize opting them out.

Incoming 7th and 8th Grade Enrichment Program

The enrichment course is designed to enrich and extend students’ argumentative writing skills through a social justice themed interdisciplinary unit. As a result of this program, students will develop additional writing skills and academic strategies to support them in advanced learning opportunities throughout middle school. Students in this program will also spend time on PSAT practice, developing the knowledge and skills to score highly on the PSAT / SAT. The purpose of this program is to protect and increase the pool of students eligible for criterion based high school programs. Students enrolled in these programs are currently exceeding grade level standards. Targeted students will be automatically enrolled in this course and only a parent can authorize opting them out.

Incoming 9th Grader Intervention Program

This intervention program is designed to integrate with Summer of Service to provide students with units of study that strengthen their skills in English Language Arts, specifically argumentative writing and to engage in developing skills for academic and career success, such as setting SMART goals, time management, leadership skills, college / career exploration, growth mindset and personal reflection. Students will also engage in strengthening their math skills as they focus in on expressions and equations, functions, geometry and the Pythagorean Theorem. Targeted students will be automatically enrolled in this course and only a parent can authorize opting them out.

High School Credit Recovery Program

The credit recovery portion of the ELSP will target current 9th – 12th grade Borderline students, who are between 5-10 credits away from being on track for A-G or graduation. Students will participate in either in-person or online credit recovery courses. Targeted students will be automatically enrolled in this course and only a parent can authorize opting them out.

High School Original Credit

High school original credit A-G courses are designed for high school students who are at least On Grade Level for both A-G and graduation. These are blended learning courses that involve online programming from UC Scout and an in-person teacher. This is the only opt-in program in ELSP and students will be provided further information in the coming weeks on how they can sign up for these classes.
