The
summer has rapidly come to a close as all District staff complete
their preparation for a new and even more successful academic year.
This issue of The Connection historically features back to school
information as well as highlights the individual and collective
accomplishments achieved by students and employees during the previous
school year.
I am very
proud of all that was achieved and I am deeply appreciative of the
dedication and focused effort demonstrated by our teachers and all
employees in support of our mission, educating all children to higher
levels. I am also grateful for the many partners and volunteers who
supported our students, staffs and schools. Volunteer and partner
contributions created additional opportunities for students and
families, and they enriched the educational experience for all our
students. Last year’s focus on the eight District priorities of our
Strategic Plan and the specific attention given to the first priority,
Equity, Access, and Achievement for Every Student by Name, resulted in
another year of improved student performance and a positive trend in
closing the achievement gap.
As your read
the many accomplishments of the 2006-2007 school year, described
throughout this issue, I know that you will conclude that several
factors contributed to these extraordinary gains. First and most
important, the commitment to excellence by each member of our learning
community; second, the sustained focus on educating all children to
higher levels; third, our District’s commitment to continuous
improvement; fourth, the alignment of all resources, both human and
fiscal to the achievement of learning targets established for students
in each grade level and finally, the support and work of parents,
partners and community members in our schools and District, all
working toward a common goal, the success of students.
I personally
thank you for the ongoing support of our students, employees, schools
and District. No investment of energy, time or financial resources is
more critical or more rewarding to building a successful and thriving
community than our investment in our children. Let’s us not forget
that the contributions of one is all that is necessary to begin and
sustain a positive surge for goodness and excellence.
Please accept my heartfelt thanks for an
extraordinary year.
