Constructed in 1937 as Sacramento's second high school, C.K. McClatchy has earned an enviable reputation in the community. Countless graduates over the years have entered the fields of law, medicine, politics, education, nursing and the world of industry.
This school is honored with an active alumni association, parent booster groups, and a wealth of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in athletics and the performing and visual arts.
C.K. McClatchy houses the Humanities and International Studies magnet school. This "school-within" is noted by colleges and universities as an outstanding university preparation program. Graduates from this program have been admitted to state universities, private colleges as well as "ivy league" universities. The program has high expectations and is grounded in the study of classical literature, geography, world cultures, history, political science and international studies. Students are required to take classes in foreign language, higher mathematics, science and the arts.
McClatchy also features four Small Learning Communities (SLCs) that prepare students for college and the world of work. Partnerships with the community offer students opportunities to explore professions and college majors in Business, Health and Human Services, Design Solutions and Arts and Media. Students in all SLCs and HISP take field trips, participate in job shadowing and internships and hear speakers describe a variety of college/career options.
The Air Force Junior ROTC program works with students who desire to develop leadership potential. The program provides an outstanding scholastic program in the area of air dynamics, science, history and geography. Building self-esteem through practice and through responsibility is a prime factor to which students are attracted.
