The SAC is comprised of
students from each participating high school Youth Congress or student
leadership class. Youth Congress is designed to meet on a regular basis
(determined by each high school) to discuss site policy or school topics.
These meetings and discussions are brought forward to the monthly SAC
Meetings. The SAC meetings are a forum for the student voice related to
student concerns, school site and district wide policy. The SAC is
supported by the Superintendent and overseen by the Assistant Superintendent
of Community, Health and Student Support Services. Through this support the
SAC has the power to:
-
Participate and
contribute input on initiatives;
-
Coordinate high school
activities in addressing district matters;
-
Represent high school
students as a liaison to the Superintendent, district committees, and the
Board of Education; and
SCUSD is proud to work
closely with our student body comprised of approximately 48,000 students to
champion and institutionalize the youth voice in district and school
site-level decision-making and problem-solving processes. |
How Can You Be Involved
with Youth Congress and the SAC?
The
development of leadership is a life-long process that starts with the
potential within you. Look around, does your site have a Youth Congress,
Student Leadership class or group that meets after school? If you are
interested in participating, start with your school site, reach out! SCUSD
has established a system where youth congress members can participate on SAC
and district wide committees. Students work with adults to address top
priority issues regarding their respective high schools and key district
issues and initiatives.
SAC fosters
the leadership process by strengthening the student voice at the high school
level. This process builds leadership skills, and offers opportunities for
students to develop the basic skills that foster successful personal
relationships, contribute to school site organization and work on district
wide committees.
You can be
involved and engaged in the SAC by participating on your school site Youth
Congress or your site leadership class.

discuss challenges and policy school and district wide. This year our SAC
is focusing on 4 main areas of student concerns:
1)
Safety

School Site Recognition
3) Academics/Quality
of Learning
4)
Nutrition/Lunch
Students have met and
formed committees that will attend administrative meetings and report back
to the group at large.
