Parent Support Services Department

Helps raise student achievement by serving, supporting and empowering parents and families.  The Parent Support Services Department recognizes the vital role parents play in their children’s education.  The department manages student records and provides parents with education and resources through its Parenthaven television show, Passport to Success Family Festival, and Parent University.  The Parent Support Services Department also provides support to teachers, administrators and other school staff who are interested in increasing parent involvement at their sites through its Parent Teacher Home Visiting Project and monthly Parent Information Exchange (PIE) Meetings.

This extraordinary partnership between a faith based community organizing group, a local teachers union and a school district began in 1998 as an effort to address the cycle of blame that existed between parents and site personnel at several Sacramento schools where there was a pervasive history of low student achievement, high levels of poverty, and where high percentages of children entered school as English learners. Please visit the Center’s website (listed below) for more details.
