The Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) and the Sacramento City Teachers Association (SCTA) have agreed to a learning recovery plan that will provide the district’s 38,000 students with 16 additional days of quality instruction over two academic years (8 days per year).

While district staff work to gain the timely approval of the State Board of Education (SBE), we are mindful of the potential impact that a change to the calendar has on our families and staff. We expect to notify you no later than May 15, 2024 whether the learning recovery plan will take effect for the upcoming school year, which would move the first day of school to August 19, 2024.

If the plan is approved after May 15, the first day of the upcoming school year will remain August 29. Our hope is that you will use this information to make plans that allow students and staff to maximize attendance and engagement during these extra learning days.

In addition to providing more meaningful instruction for students, this plan represents an opportunity for Sac City Unified to avoid state penalties for not meeting the required number of instructional days and minutes in the 2021-2022 school year.
